Any employee in Northwest Minnesota who was recently laid off can find support and resources at the Rural Minnesota Concentrated Employment Program (RMCEP). Visit your nearest location to find potential job leads, work on your resume, and learn about opportunities to grow your skills or complete certifications.

“Everyone is eligible to come in and use our resources in the Careerlab,” says Tina Jaster, Executive Director of RMCEP. “We are funded by state and federal programs, so there is no cost for job seekers.”

It doesn’t matter whether you are entering the job market after a year of employment or haven’t written a resume in decades. All experience levels, industries, backgrounds, and abilities are welcome. Here are a few ways RMCEP can help.

RMCEP Offers Trusted Resources and Secure Web Use

The internet is an essential resource for finding a job, whether you are updating your resume or searching for open listings. However, it can also be unsafe for people who don’t know how to look out for scams. Some of the latest job search scams use fake listings to steal personal information or make people pay to apply.

Rural Minnesota CEP provides computers for people who need internet access and trusted career professionals who can help you review listings and find real, relevant positions.

“When you receive our help, you don’t just learn how to navigate the job market, but you also can feel confident knowing that our systems are secure.”

RMCEP works hard to keep its devices free of malware and to detect suspicious sites that could pose threats to users. Visit your nearest location and search the web safely.

RMCEP Can Highlight Career Opportunities

The expert career advisors at RMCEP constantly track job openings across the region and do their best to connect laid-off workers with potential employers. They can also identify potential opportunities to learn new skills or receive certifications that can make your resume stand out.

Talk to a local RMCEP team member about where you want your career to go. This could be an opportunity to change industries or step into a new role that follows your passions.

Not only can RMCEP identify training and education opportunities, but career counselors can also potentially find funding to cover the costs. For example, the Drive for Five grant supports job seekers looking to build their skills in five key industries (technology, trades, manufacturing, education, and care professionals). You may qualify for grant money that makes your education or certification goals more affordable.

“We know the employers in the community and what they look for in candidates,” says Jaster. “And we can help potential employees secure training and certification to appeal to these employers.”

RMCEP Is Involved in Local Communities

Job seekers in Northwest Minnesota are often worried about employment opportunities because they live in rural areas. There aren’t as many employers to apply to, especially if multiple companies are laying off workers. RMCEP team members are involved in local chambers of commerce, professional associations, and community groups. They are always listening for employment openings to recommend to others.

“Opportunities are waiting in our community,” says Jaster. “The market is changing, but we’re here to find the best path possible so job seekers can find employment as soon as possible.”

RMCEP Provides Personal Support During a Difficult Time

Job seekers who are technologically proficient and confident in their career path can still benefit from visiting Rural Minnesota CEP. Getting laid off can be emotionally overwhelming and is unexpected for most workers. The professionals at RMCEP are trained to offer emotional support and validate your experience while offering local, individualized job search assistance.

“Our staff is passionate about their work,” says Jaster. “They understand the crisis somebody is in when they are between jobs. They understand the weight unemployment puts on families.”

Meeting with a career expert at RMCEP means finding someone who is on your side. This person will watch for potential jobs and alert you when they think an opening is a good fit. They are also here to listen if you just need to talk about your worries or experiences.
