Career Advising

Access to sound career counseling, including knowledge of demand occupations, is vital to assisting youth in making well-informed career choices.  Currently there is little career planning and career pathway counseling and/or instruction available to high school students.  RMCEP has been providing Career Advising services for the past several years in a few targeted high schools.  Based on the positive results of the Career Advisor services offered in the targeted high schools, we have been asked to expand Career Advising to a broader consortium of high schools.

As a result, RMCEP applied for and was granted a $120,000 Otto Bremer Foundation award to expand the Career Advisor services to a consortium of high schools in Economic Development Region 5 over an 18 month period. Additionally, the consortium of high schools will contribute $50,000 to this important service for a total of $170,000 for the project.

The ultimate goal of this project is to provide a means for high school students to develop an individual career plan through higher level of student interaction and based on the latest career information.

The following high schools are included in this consortium: Wadena, Verndale, Upsala, Swanville, Staples, Pine River, Pierz, Menahga, Little Falls, Eagle Valley, Crosby, and Bertha-Hewit.
